Route Notes Audoubert - 26 Oct 82 C1 - 18 Sept, reached C2 site 20 Sept and then much snow C2 - 2 Oct occupied (1 tent) at 6000m C3 - 3 Oct 6450m Biv - 5 Oct 7300m and descended New biv - 9 Oct 7500m 10 Oct left biv at 7:10 am and on top 12:00, Audoubert and Nawang Tenzing (Messner's climber). Route was normal NE Face with some change going right of seracs (between 5400m and 6000m, between C1 and C2). Deep snow was problem: C1 broken under snow late Sept. No oxygen at all; 3 Sherpas above BC. No more on top because had no time because of tight schedule and others not well acclimatization, in such short period of time. No accident, no frostbite, no illness. All members reached C3. Other expedition to Manaslu were friends of this one and this one happy to have then join climb. Almost no skiing. Ale, Tourism - 13 Oct 82 C4 - 4 Oct 7450m Summit 10 Oct by Leader Audoubert and Nawang Tenzing 33, at 12:00 noon. Started from C4 at 7:00 am, stayed on top 30 minutes, returned to C4 2:20 pm. All Ok. Ale, Tourism - 6 Oct 82 C1 - 18 Sept 5200m C2 - 12 Sept 5900m Want to change route; went to C1 of NE Ridge and skied down to own camp. LO did not permit further climbing on NE Ridge. Audoubert - 29 Aug 82 NE Face route skiing up and maybe down, all on skis Leave 2 or 3 Sept by road to Trisuli Bazar 15 days to BC BC at 4800m if possible to get porters that high 3 or 4 camps above BC with highest at 7400 or 7500m 3 Sherpas above BC No oxygen at all Summit 10-12 Oct On skis in autumn soft snow easier than on foot, but cannot use skis in icefall, and in 2 different pitches.
