Smt 27/09 by Shipilov summited and Snitkovskaia (client) using oxygen. On first rotation, team touched 7000m on 22/09. They spent another night at C3 and descended to Samagaon. Summit push: From Samagaon to C1 on 25/09; on 26/09 from C1 to C3. After the summit, they descended to C4 where they arrived at 7 pm. They stayed there to acclimatize for another night for their other climb. On 29/09 back to BC at 4700m where they stayed one night and on 30/09 back to Samagaon. Second (SW Face-NW Ridge): Team rested in Samagaon for a day and trekked to Tilje in two days. Stayed in Tilje till 07/10 and waited for mules. As they had problems finding mules and porters, the porters did two shifts carrying the gear from Tilje to BC. On 12/10 they reached ABC. On 13/10, they explored the route they had originally planned and found out that it was a lot drier than expected. They climbed up the icefall on the left side near the rock. It was a mixed climb of snow and ice and a bit of rock. There was a lot of rockfall so they had to climb fast. On the flat part they crossed the icefall and then moved up on the right-hand side. There was some old rope on the rock, probably from Kobusch. On 15/10, they climbed out of the icefall and spent a lot of time checking out the SW Face, hence they were quite slow. On that day, they decided that their initial goal, east of the Austrian route, was too technical. Prior to the expedition, they checked out several routes and decided to go for the route between the original route and Austrian route. The route they were just about to climb had a gradient of about 55-60 degrees. At the beginning of the climb, their rucksacks weighed about 32 kg. As they progressed, they think the weight dropped down to 25 kg. On 17/10, they started climbing the wall on hard snow and firn and a bit of ice. As Beliankina lost had nine fingers during a climb to Peak Communism, it was hard for her to use her ice axe. So, the rest of the team fixed some rope for Beliankina. On 18/10, they only ascended about 150m as they had to bypass the serac. They pitched camp at 10 am and Eizeman and Shipilov fixed about 300m of rope. The route was about 60 degrees. The conditions were difficult to place gear. It took them about five hours to fix 300m. 19/10 the team woke up at midnight and started to climb at 3 am. They wanted to reach the plateau via the direct rock face; however, they found that it was too dangerous due to snow avalanches and the technicality of the climb. They traversed to the right and looked for a good place for their tent. They had trouble cutting out a real platform and made a mediocre campsite. Due to not sleeping well and not hydrating, they lost a lot of strength during that night. 20/10 late start as it was so cold. They started to climb the mixed part which was not so technical, but a bit steeper than before. It was loose rock, but protection placement possible. They were surprised to find such a steep rock face of about 300m height at the end of their traverse as they expected a slope. They fixed the rope on the face. 21/10 team reached plateau just below the NE Ridge. 22/10 team started at 8 am. It was very windy. About 60 km/h. They ascended the last metres on the normal route and reached the summit at 4 pm. Due to the high winds they only stayed about 1 minute on the summit and descended to the plateau where they arrived at 6 pm and spent the night. Descent: At this point, the team was not sure which route to descend – either the normal or the Austrian route. 23/10 they descended from plateau to the Austrian route. As it is close to the normal route, they kept it open which route to go down. Visibility was poor and they pitched their tent at 7400m and stayed the night. 24/10 they descended to Austrian route with about 5 rappels. On the other parts, they fixed a rope and arm wrapped. The descended to the pass at 6600m. It took them about 9 hours to get there. They still had some food left, but they were running out. 25/10 they descended to the beginning of the icefall to 5800m and pitched a tent there. It was flat and easy to walk, however, in different snow conditions this section would be very avalanche prone with Thulagi and Nadi Chuli on either side. 26/10 they approached through the icefall. When they reached the top of the icefall at about 2 pm, they waited for the sun to go down as conditions would have been too dangerous in the heat. They started to descend at 4 pm and reached ABC at 8 pm. They had no food left. 27/10 they reached BC. 28/10 it started to rain, and porters came to pick up the gear. Team stayed another night at BC. Left BC on 29/10 to Tilje; on 30/10 jeep to Kathmandu. Members at end: 5 Climbing route: SW Face-NW Ridge Oxygen: Not taken, not used Fixed rope: they had 5 60m ropes with them which they fixed in certain places. Perfect season to climb this route. If conditions were different, it is very avalanche-prone.
