Route Notes From Cheruiyot Kirui: We didnt spend any night at C4. we however rested at C4 on 23 Sept and started for the summit at 10 pm. Conditions were good. We were climbing without supplemental oxygen and got to the summit at around 12:20 pm on 24 Sept. Summit was windy. Returned to C2 around 2 am on 25 Sept. We were first Kenyans to reach the true summit of Manaslu, also first Kenyans to climb an eight-thousander without supplemental oxygen. From Katrin Oertel: BC 14/09 4850m C1 18/09 5550m C1B 21/09 5773m C2 22/09 6300m C3 27/09 6630m C4 28/09 7340m at 2 am Smt 28/09 by Oertel and Schuchter at 5 pm. The expedition carried everything to BC and up the mountain themselves. All the climbing gear, food and tents and whatever was needed for the expedition. Oertel left Kathmandu on 23/08 to Maccha Khola. She carried her expedition gear to Samagaon, then crossed the Larkya La and went back to Kathmandu where she met Schuchter on 04/09. She also carried her own food to BC, but when they arrived there, she realised that Thamserku had organised all the food and then they used their services. On their first rotation they tagged C2 on 16/09, dumped their gear and returned to BC. On second rotation, they tagged C3 on 19/09 after they had dumped their gear at C2, returned to C2 and stayed the night there and descended to BC on 20/09. On summit push, they ascended to C2, and after they had stayed a night at C3 they ascended towards C4 at 6 pm to reach the summit that night. However, the weather was very windy and when they reached C4 on 28/09 at 2 am they asked a Japanese man whether they could stay in his tent. They started their summit push at 8 am. They were on their own on the summit on their own as they summited so late. They spent about 10 minutes and descended to C4 where they arrived at around 9 pm. The tent of the Japanese was empty which they could use again for the night. On 29/09, they descended to C3 where they rested a bit and then dismantled it, did the same with C2 and then descended to BC. Left BC on 01/10 to Samagaon. Trekked back to Machha Khola.
