Route Notes Approach: Jeep to Dharapani, trekked to BC. High point on 14/09 at4300m (above Dona Lake Manaslu SW) by Kobusch. Climb abandoned on 08/10 due to bad conditions on the mountain. The plan was to climb the direct SW Face of Manaslu. Solo, unsupported and in alpine style. Last village Nache at 2200m on 12/09. From there to Dona Lake at 4200m. Set up base camp at Dona Lake on 13/09. Two porters carried loads to BC and walked back. From the lake he checked a potential route, the plan was to cross an icefall to get to the Butterfly Valley, just below the SW Face. He had to cross a rock covered glacier to 4400m behind BC. Reached his Manaslu highpoint on 14/09 at 4300m. A lot of rain every day and the unusually long monsoon prevented him to go any higher. A lot of avalanche danger. Also, he contracted Dengue Fever and had to stay in the tent for 4 days. On 18/09 Kobusch walked down to Nache to relax. He decided to climb Chulu West to acclimatize, hoping that conditions on Manaslu would get better in the meantime. After he ascended Chulu West he went back to Nache and waited for better weather. Final decision to abandon expedition on 08/10. Back to KTM by jeep on 11/10.
