| Route Notes | The plan was to complete first winter traverse of Manaslu 8163m and Pinnacle 7992m without oxygen. In early January Moro, Alvarez and Chicon (Txikon) climbed up to C1 at 6000m, but bad weather and deep snow hindered their progress. By January 9, all Manaslu teams retreated from BC to Samagaon, some by heli and some by walking, leaving only a small Sherpa team to manage their camps. Moro, Alvarez and Chicon remained in Samagaon much of January, feeling that conditions were too dangarous to climb. They called off their attempt in early February. From Alex Txikon's blog: 23 Dec: Team arrived at BC by 23 Dec after heli flight to Samagaon. 30 Dec: Snowed for 36 hours (2m of snow). Climbed up to 6500m to deposit gear. 10 Jan: Avalanche conditions are getting worse. Down to Samagaon. 24 Jan: Team waits at Samagaon for conditions to improve. Over 3m of snow at BC. 22 Feb: Expedition abandoned. 6500m highest point reached. |
