Route Notes From the Himalayan Times Czech Climber Missing on Manaslu, 30 Sept 2018 by Rajan Pokhrel KATHMANDU: A foreign climber has been missing on Mt Manaslu since last evening with bad weather hampering search and rescue efforts throughout the day today, the expedition organiser said. According to Tej Bahadur Thapa, Managing Director at Mount Treks Nepal Pvt. Ltd, Roman Hlavko (43) from the Czech Republic went missing while descending from the summit point of the 8163-metre peak. The mountaineer reportedly made it to the summit point along with three fellow mountaineers in the afternoon, he said, adding that other climbers only realised that Roman was missing when they arrived at Camp III. “Roman, a part of the 14-member expedition, was last seen near Camp IV while descending from the top of the 8163-metre mountain,” Thapa quoted other climbers as saying. Once the climber was reported missing this morning, a four-member rescue team from Seven Summit Treks has been deployed on foot, the official said. The team, however, failed to make it to above Camp II as the route was hit by avalanches.
