Route Notes C3 was occupied by Sherpas only: no member reached it. The Sherpas pitched the camp at 6800m on 27 Sept and slept there that night. But they abandoned it the next day because there was too much snow there; they left the camp in place, hoping it could be reoccupied later. But it never was reoccupied. Sherpas went up to it only to dismantle it. Because of continued snowfall, and only a two-day window of good weather forecast for 30 Sept and 1 Oct for the near future, the expedition abandoned their attempt on the mountain on 28 Sept and left BC on 1 Oct. Russell Brice and Phil Crampton also called off their expeditions at the same time. The three leaders decided it was unsafe to continue climbing because of the potential serious danger from avlaanching in the unusually warm weather they were experiencing.
