| Route Notes | Translated by Google from Norwegian website blog: http://www.hoyfjellspesialisten.no/Manaslu.php TOP IS REACHED! CONGRATULATIONS! Expedition to Manaslu 8163 m. 3 Sept. - October 8, 2014 Toril Elvan - Atle Heum - Kjetil Rønning Hansen 01.oktober Toril, Atle and Kjetil are now in Kathmandu. They have had their flight their so they go home to Norway already tomorrow on October 2. They arrive Oslo Gardermoen 3rd October at. 13:30. Toril writes that it will be good to come back home after the hectic weeks in the mountains. We see well all looking forward to hear more about the tour and see pictures. On September 29, The team is now in Samagaon and they will in course of tomorrow fly by helicopter back to Kathmandu. 27th September Talked to office in Kathmandu today, and they've got bekjed that everything is fine with the three. The group came to camp 2 yesterday and had to stay there because it came so much snow. Today they supposedly come to camp 1, and during the evening or early morning they come back to BC. 25.september Just got told that the top of Manaslu is reached! It happened in the morning hours today, and all three are fine. They now rest in camp 4 (7459moh), and the plan is to come back to BC tomorrow. Coming back with more info during the day if I get further contact. 24.september It has been very difficult with communication from Manaslu. Got today notified by the office in Kathmandu that everything is fine with the three. The overnight now camp2 (6400m), and they are supposedly well acclimatized already. Weather permitting, they will try their hand at the top tomorrow. Exciting! If this is not possible, then the original plan that they go down to BC and waiting for a weather window. 16.september Now the whole expedition with Nima Gombu Sherpa spearheaded come to Manaslu BC. They had appeared a couple of good days in Kathmandu, before they flew by helicopter to Samagaon (approximately 3360mon). The next day they went to BC (about 4895moh). Was notified yesterday from Nima that all are in good shape in BC. Tomorrow, on September 17, they shall have the Puja, a Buddhist ceremony. Sherpas are Buddhists, and none of them goes on mountain without first obtaining the blessing as a Puja provides. During Puja incense, a llama asks and it is offered everything from beer to rice and biscuits. It's a long ceremony, which can last several hours. Western participants also tend to witness the ceremony. September 11th Was notified yesterday from Nima Gombu Sherpa that the three had reached the top of Yala Peak (5500m). Acclimation had gone fine, and they are in good shape. Today they sanynligvis come to Shebrubesi, and tomorrow they will reach Kathmandu. Just got contact with Toril via FB. It sounded like they had it good, and they look forward to a rest day in Kathmandu before flying towards Manaslu. |
