Route Notes BC 09/09 4700m C1 15/09 5400m C2 17/09 6300m C3 --- C4 24/09 7400m by Sasaki, Dawa Gyalje. Sasaki was part of the Chinese group led by Ma Li-Yamu. When Ma's team left for the summit on 26 Sept, Sasaki decided to stay at C4 as he was not feeling well. At about 8 am he and Dawa Gyalje left C4 to descend to BC. Just outside C4 at an altitude of about 7300m, Sasaki slipped on some blue ice and fell for about 25m. Dawa Gyalje fell with him (they were probably roped together), however, Dawa Gyalje did not hurt himself. After having tried to pull Sasaki up, Dawa Gyalje contacted Mingma Gyalze and Kaji, who were on their way to the summit with the Chinese team. The two Sherpas arrived at the scene at about 12 noon; however, Sasaki was dead when they got there. On 27 Sept the Dawa Gyalje, Kaji and Mingma Gyalje descended to BC to rest. On 28 Sept they ascended to C4 and brought Sasaki's body to C3, from where he was picked up by helicopter on 30 Sept. Oxygen: Taken and used from C3 to C4 by Sasaki. Sherpas: Dawa Gyalje (Dawa Gyalzen), 14/3/80, Beding From Ma team: Kaji (Pasang Kaji, Pasang Kami), 1963, Loding (Tamakhani), Solukhumbu Mingma Gyalje, 14/4/86, Beding
