Route Notes Correa's trekking agency, Thamserku Trekking, considered him to be a member of the team led by Santiago Quintero since they were on the same permit. But actually Correa was independent of Quintero's expedition. He arrived at BC on 21 September with the Quintero team and climbed up to C1 and C2 with them on the 25th and 29th. On his arrival at C1, he seemed to be seriously ill with cerebral edema, although Quintero suspects that he was faking his edema. In any case, two members of the team brought him down to BC, and he went to the nearest village, Samagaon. On 1 October he climbed back up to C1 without telling anyone he was going up. On the 2nd he went up to C2 alone and on the 3rd he was still in C2. No one knows his movements after that. Deep snow prevented search for him; no teams went above C1 at this time and a lot of gear was abandoned. No one knows were Correa went and where his body may be. Correa's family asked Carlos Wilke, a member of Quintero's team who lives in Colombia, to go by helicopter to C2, but on 8 October there was such a deep snow, landing at C2 was not possible, and Wilke could see no trace of Correa from the air. In December, a member of Thamserku Trekking's Kathmandu office confirmed that neither had Correa reappeared nor his body found.
