Route Notes This team was not hit by the fatal avalanche that took 11 lives on other expeditions. The avalanche occured on 23 September; this expedition didn't arrive at their C3 until five days later. The summit party consisted of Huber, Keck, Maier, Schiestl and Thorens, plus Pemba Norbu. They left C3 for the top at 1:00 am on the 29th of September. Thorens climbed too slowly and turned around at 8000m while the rest of the group continued to the summit and arrived there between 1:00 and 2:00 pm. They returned to C3 at 8:00 pm. Other non-summiting members: Blinzler was not in good enough condition to climb the mountain. He got to C1 on 11 September, then left the team on about the 14th go to trekking. Held was sick with a lung problem, reached C1, then left the mountain with Thanner. Pangratz got to C1, then develeped bronchitis and left the team on 24 September. Sporer went up to C1 at 5800m, but no higher because the fatal avalanche on 23 September worried him. Thanner reached C3 (6800m), but went down to BC afterwards and left with Pangratz on the 24th. Waelti also got as high as C3, but descended to BC from there. Sherpa: Pemba Norbu, 6/12/78, Ghunsa, Lelep-9, Taplejung, Everest X5, Cho Oyu X2
