Route Notes All of the team's climbing was done by Freire, Esteban and Perez. Vallejo arrived at BC by helicopter very late on 24 September and never went higher. On 16 September, C3 site was reached and a tent pitched with all the gear required for their summit bid was left inside. Then they descended to BC and spent the 18th and 19th resting. On the 20th they moved back up to C1, but the next day they found that there was too much snow on the mountain, so they retreated to BC that day. There was there when the huge avalanche came roaring down the mountain early on the 23rd. They went up again to C1 on the 25th and on the 26th to the site of C3. Nothing remained of the tent they had erected and the important gear stocked there for their climb to the top. They went back to BC that day. They moved up once more on the 28th from BC to C2 and from C2 to C4 on the 29th. They took only their basic needs: just one tent, warm clothing and sleeping mats borrowed from other groups. The three climbers left C4 for the top at 2:30 am on 30 September. They were on the summit at 7:10 am and were down in BC at 9:00 am. Freire and Perez had suffered from throat infections, but antibiotics had enabled them to continue their climb.
