Route Notes The expedition planned to put their C3 at 7400m, the normal site for C4, but they never got there. At 4:00 am on the 23rd, they were hit buy a large avalanche that killed one member. The fatal avalanche, which took a total of eleven lives from half a dozen teams, fell from an ice on the North Ridge; it carried snow with it, and its snow buried climbers tents. The Amical expedition's C2 was at 6730m, the normal site for C3, and its tents were buried in the snow, as were tents of other teams C3. The leader, Robert Hochreiter, was in his tent which was buried, but he was freed alive and unharmed by cutting open his tent. However, from this expedition, four members were badly affected. * Christian Mittermeyer was killed by it. * Martin Neubauer's knee was hit by pieces of ice, which left him walking with pain and difficulty. * Andreas Reiter's vertebra was fractured. He had had to be evacuated from C2 to a Kathmandu hospital by helicopter. * Ralf Rieske's fingers were frostbitten and big blisters resulted (they will heal); also his ribs were paiful. He used oxygen after the avalanche hit him.
