Route Notes High point on 13 May at 7990m by Jaepel, Ranke, Sippel, Stitzinger, von Melle at 1:30 pm. All members skied down from 7200m. Team left C4 at 7 am; they had intended to leave at 5 am, but the wind was too strong. When they left it was sunny and a bit windy. At 1:30 pm the weather changed completely and an electrical storm started. They were contemplating for half an hour about what to do, but decided to descend to C4, where they arrived at 5 pm. During their descent they were frequently hit by electricity generated by the storm. When they started their descent to C3 on 14 May. Ranke started to feel the effect of HAPE. When they got to C3, Stitzinger put him on oxygen for the night and he recovered quickly. The next day he was able to ski from C3 to BC with all the other members. Snow conditions were good for skiing. Apart from Ranke, all members broke down the three camps on 17 May. They were on skis again and skied down again. Stitzinger had carried his skis up but the weather was too bad to ski down. Stitzinger and Ranke suffered from frostbite on their hands (Stitzinger two fingers on each hand and Ranke his right thumb). Oxygen: Taken and used by Ranke during the night of 14 May at C3 to cure his HAPE.
