Route Notes High point team (Aebischer, Brunner, Juda, Niederoest, Tesch, Esther Wenger, Rankwiler and Phuri Sherpa) left C3 at 4 am. The weather was a bit overcast. Straightforward climb. However, when they reached 7000m at about 9 am, Rankwiler decided to turn around as the weather had turned bad and there was avalanche danger. The team descended to C1, where they arrived at 5 pm. The next day they descended to base camp. Klahr reached 5800m on 26 April and stayed one night at C2. When they returned to base camp she got sick and decided to leave the expedition. She left BC on 30 April. Leuthold reached an altitude of 4800m (C1) on 23 April. He stayed at C1 for one night, but he was not feeling well. When they returned to BC he decided to abandon the expedition due to an infection and left BC on 21 April. Wenger reached an altitude of 6200m on 13 May; however, he had to turn around due to altitude problems. Rankwiler's note on the death of the Italian climber, Guiseppe Antonelli on Manaslu: The dead Italian Guiseppe Antonelli died, because the members and the leader (Mario Merelli) of the Italian expedition didn't care about Guiseppe. He lies over 7000m alone in the snow; no body was there, as they were heading towards the summit. A very bad story. We pulled Giuseppe to C2, where I gave him medicine and oxygen. After 1 hour he died. Note: Rankwiler does not know where Phuri Sherpa is from; however, he has climbed with Kobler before. Sherpa: Furi Sherpa, 19/6/81 (5/3/2038), Kerung-1, Solu, no 8000ers
