Route Notes Project Himalaya/Altitude Junkies Manaslu Expedition - 17 Oct 2008 The expedition made two summit bids. The first summit party, Crampton, Parkinson and Tarke Sherpa, left C4 at 3:30 am on 5 October. They reached the fore-summit at 9:30 am and, after waiting for descending summiters, reached the top at 9:45-9:50 am. They returned to C3 at 3:30 pm and BC the next day at 12:45 pm. The second summit party, Brands, Smith and Pasang Gombu, left C4 at 3:30 am on the 6th. They turned around at about 6:30 am at 300m below the summit because of high winds. Brands and Pasang Gombu went down to C3 at 11:00 am while Smith descended all the way to BC at 8:00 pm. All others went to BC on the 7th at noon. The summit is a very exposed cornice and is very dangerous.
