Route Notes Manaslu: Campos & Cimenti - 23 May 2008 Javier Campos and Carlalberto Cimenti arrived in Kathmandu on different dates; Cimenti said he was climbing alone. But after Campos arrived, they left Kathmandu together on 12 April and climbed the mountain together most of the time. On 11 May they made C3 at 6900m together, but on the 12th Cimenti stayed in C3 while Campos went up and established C4 at 7438m. At 9:15 pm on the 12th, Cimenti went up from C3 and reached C4 at 2:15 am of the 13th. Campos had already left C4 at 1:30 am; Cimenti caught up with him at about 4:00 am. At 4:30 that morning, when Campos reached 7700m, he decided he should turn back. He had pain in one of his kidneys, so he descended all the way to BC, stopping in each camp to drink liquids (two or three liters in C3) and began to have less pain when was below C3. Cimenti continued his ascent, climbing with Bulgarians and Dutch teams. But he, too abandoned his summit bid; he turned back on the summit plateau at about 7800m at 5:30 am because of very strong wind. He also descended to BC that day. Cimenti wanted to make another summit attempt, but he did not think it was safe for him to climb alone, and there was no one to climb with him. So he abandoned his climb. Cimenti skied down to BC from C3 (6900m) twice, once taking off his skis at two rock sections of 50 and 20 meters each, but on 20 April he made a complete run down from C3.
