| Route Notes | BC at normal site C1 at next to others camp C2 at next to others camp C3 by Sherpas only. Very dangerous to go above C3 because deep snow (waist-deep) and Sherpas extremely tired. 18 May to C3 from C2 both members carried one oxygen bottle themselves because Man Bahadur and Ang Tshering too tired from constantly moving up and down with Mrs Shimada, who was very demanding of service especially Man Bahadur, whom she understood was her personal "Sherpa." At C3 site, left Man Bahadur and Ang Tshering who stayed in C3 while Tabei and Hiraki went down to C2 to sleep and to return with 2 Noguchi Sherpas they thought would go up with them, but next evening learned these 2 Sherpas not able to do so. Next morning 19th, Man Bahadur and Ang Tshering left C3 with all gear to C2 and climb finished because 2 Sherpas had assured Japanese not going to continue and the other 2 were with Shimada. Shimada a problem for Tabei and Hiraki demanding priority for Sherpas' assistance though all 3 Japanese paid $2600 each to trekking agent for a personal Sherpa. "Sherpas" to high point Chhiri, aka Ang Chhiring, 2/6/73, Thamo, Everest X2, Cho Oyu X2 Man Bahadur Tamang, aka Gopal, 1959, Jaidu, Salleri-5, Solu, Everest X4 |
