Route Notes BC at usual campsite C1 at usual campsite C2 at usual campsite C3 at usual campsite. Fear and Bishnu Gurung started from C4 (7400m) at 03:00 hours on May 28; both reached the summit at 10:30 hours, stayed on summit for 30 minutes. The weather on summit was less windy but cloudy. While descending at 7800m, Bishnu heard a big noise and saw Fear fall into a crevasse head down, since they both were on the same main rope, Bishnu immdediately used his safety and put brake with his ice axe. For two hours Bishnu tried all he could do to pull Fear out of the crevasse, but no success. Bishnu did not get any response from Fear. During the course slowly and gradually the crevasse started getting wider and wider and Bishnu who was totally exhausted, tied the rope on his axe anchor and descended to C1 (5600m) at 21:00 hours. Then Bishnu radioed to BC to the Sherpa staff of Ken Noguchi Manaslu Cleaning Expedition 2006. Bishnu reached BC on May 29 at 14:30 hours. Bishnu flown in by helicopter from Samagaon on May 31. Bir Bahadur Gurung, aka Bishnu/Vishnu, 20/9/67, Tharanpani VDC, Tanho, Cho Oyu 5/10/02 Email Billi Bierling to Hawley (word by word translation of Grunert's email of 17 July 2006 "Sue and Bishnu reached C3 on 15th May and C4 on 16th May. She told me that they tried to go for summit on May 17th but did not feel well and came back to C4, where I met her on the 17th. We wanted to give it another try on the 18th May but the weather had turned bad (storm). As the weather did not improve on 19th May we decided to descend. Bishnu and I descended to BC the same day and Sue stayed at C2 and descended to BC on 20th May. I left BC for Kathmandu on 20th May. Email of 14th July Sue had her camps in the same places as I did apart from C3. She had her camp at 6800m on a little plateau (official C3). I had my camp at 6900m in a crevasse. Here are the altitudes of Sue's camps: C1: 5700m C2: 6400m C3: 6800m C4: 7450m All camps were set up by Bishnu. I ascended together with Sue twice (BC to C1 and C1 to C2) and we descended together from C4. Well, when I say we ascended together I mean we ascended at the same day. We then met up at the camp and we had a chat. Sue, Bishnu and I descended together from C4. Bishnu and I descended to BC and Sue stayed the night at C2 and descended to BC the next day.
Accidents Sue Fear fell into crevasse
