Route Notes C3 at 7050m near serac High point at beginning of summit ridge. Richter and Weist left C4 at 4 am. Weather was clear and calm. There was a lot of snow and they had to break trail. When they arrived at 8125m they saw that the summit ridge was too difficult for them, too steep and too much ice. They turned back at 1:30 pm and descended to C4, where they arrived at 4 pm. They descended to BC on 18 May. Peter and Steffen Kiefer reached 7500m on 9 May (with Weist). But turned back due to bad weather. They spent the night at C3. Steffen Kiefer developed pulmonary edema during the night (his lungs gurgled). The three (Weist, Peter and Steffen Kieffer) left C3 at 7 am on 10 May and descended to BC. So they led him down on a rope. It took them 9 hours to get to BC. He stayed at BC on 11 May and descended to Samagaon on 12 May with Schoene. Peter Kiefer left BC on 16 May; he met up with Steffen and Schoene in Samagaon and trekked out via Larkya La. Schoene got to 6500m on 28 April. But turned back due to exhaustion; he descended to C2, stayed the night and descended to BC the next day. He tried another ascent on 4 May but only only got to C1, stayed the night and descended to BC the day, where he stayed until he descended to BC with Steffen Kiefer. Richter and Weist told the Ministry of Tourism that they did go to the summit because the trekking agent asked them to say so for publicity purposes. [Richter and Weist said back in Germany they only reached the fore-summit.]
