| Route Notes | BC at normal site (above Samagaon) C3 at upper shoulder/romp High point at C3. Camp 1.5 established and slept in at 6460m because snow so deep they could not reach intended C2 site at 6700m. Big snow storm came up with 4-6 days of snowfall dumping total 10m, so on 14 April down to BC. 24 April up to C1, 25th to C2, unable to find C1.5 because deep snow buried it. 28th started snowing and lasted over 2 weeks, so 28th down to BC and on to Samagaon 29th because so much snow. Many BC tents collapsed by wind and snow but able to dig out and repair most of them but took nearly a week to do so. To C1 14th May, C1.5 15th and C2 on 16th. C1 under 9 ft of snow of C2 when 10 ft and all tents smashed and squashed all poles snapped. Managed to dig them out and repair them, so nothing lost. C3 on 16th on solid blue ice on upper shoulder on ramp. Polish summiters took some of this team's ropes fixed to C3 (50m piece) to get to top. Because of this couldn't top end of fixed ropes (because of Pole's taking) and couldn't leave C3 till wind slowed enough so could see route; left C3 on 18th with a frostbitten Ang Shera Jangbu Sherpa on one finger and possible cerebral edema. In C2 on 19th team voted to quit: all members fed up with climb. Coster left expedition 15 May - had had enough. Edwards left also 15 May - also had had enough. |
