Spanish Manaslu - Autumn 2000 From David Rosa and Endika Urtaran We arrived to Kathmandu in August 28. In August we went to Ministry of Tourism and legalised every electronic instrument we had (satellite telephone, internet computer, walkie-talkies). In August 31st we arrived to Gorkha for starting trekking by Buri Gandaki Valley. After enjoying a lot, on September the 3rd we had a very bad experience. In the night, in Seti village, about 7 pm a terrorist group assaulted us. They feared us with guns and we had to pay them every rupee we had totally Rs 25,000. They put the guns on our sirdar's head and he had to pay them more money. They socked the boss of the porters and we had to assist him because of the hurts in his face. They kept us inside the tents all the night, what it was one of the worst experiences in our life. In the night we was able to use our satellite telephone from our tents with many risk to ask help to police. The next day the liaison officer Mr. Amar Gopal Shrestha said us that one military helicopter would carry us to Kathamndu for free. When police from Arughat arrived to Seti said to us that if wanted helicopter we had to pay. Like we was so fear and we didn't want to sleep another night more in this valley we accepted. We had to go down from Seti to Arughat walking with police, because they said it was possible the terrorist could try through bombs from near hills. On August the 4th high militaries from Pokhara came to Arughat and asked us about happened. They said us that this valley was very dangerous and the people from Ministry of Tourism might have told us. In the same day we returned to Kathmandu in two trips by commercial helicopters. The next day we went to Ministry directly and we thought the Ministry would pay the rescue helicopter but it wasn't. Being students we had to pay money, asking for money.
