Route Notes BC at high BC (same expedition's ABC site) High point just below Makalu at 7400m. Much snow - fixed ropes to 7200m on 11 Oct when Sange slipped at 2:00-3:00 pm and climb stopped. Slipped 100m hanging on rope - rock broke his head. Others with him brought body to C1: up on 13th and found C1 tent with body blown into crevasse. On 15th again up to C1, close to crevasse but too windy to bring out body: finally got it out on 15th and to BC, 16th down for cremation. On 18th return BC 24th through very deep snow. 26th some members to go to C1 by one km high avalanche removed C1. Again to C1 site but no equipment left and climb finished. Hoping to find funding for Makalu again in spring 2000.
