| Route Notes | C1 at West Col C2 on SE Ridge. Fixed ropes with Japanese and climbed quickly. Wanted to take Messner route above Makalu couloir but very difficult ice and rocks; French ridge not possible because of much snow. Her Sherpa made camps and fixed ropes A. Beghin at C2 23 Sep. 1st attempt for top at C3 on 29th but not slept there. Climbed with Japanese. She did not actually try for top from C3 because of deep snow above. Also very cold. Beghin decided 1 Oct to stop her climbing and Caillat on 2nd. Beghin tired and not well. |
