Route Notes BC at normal high BC site Deposit ABC at start of glacier C2 at Makalu La - 3 tents C3 at same as Catalan - 1 tent on NW Ridge on right side of Messner route High point at C3. At first wanted to follow Catalan route but too dangerous and went to Makalu La. From C1 to C2 1000m fixed rope. Tried three times to go high: once only to C3, other times not above Makalu La and 3 times camps destroyed by wind. Last time was on 13th; 14th down. Not so much snow but big problem was with the wind.
