| Route Notes | Approach: Biratnagar->Num BC 0/04 (Hillary BC) ABC 22/04 5700m C1 27/04 6340m C2 28/04 6600m C3 12/05 7500m C4 22/05 7600m HPt 23/05 8000m by Hess, Mingmar, Phurba and Sonam. The whole team including Salzmann left C4 at 8:30 pm. It had been snowing before and 20cm were on the ground. When Salzmann reached 7700m he decided to turn around with Phurba due to difficult route finding and moving too slowly. He did not have a good feeling. He returned to C4 together with Phurba Sherpa who dropped Salzmann off and went back up to catch up with the rest of the team. When they reached 8000m at 1:30 am, Hess decided to turn back as it just did not feel right. They returned to C4 where they arrived at 3 am. On 23/05 they left C4 at 10 am and descended to ABC where they arrived at 3 pm. Left BC on 24/05 by heli. Smets reached C3 on 12/05. He abandoned the expedition due to lack of motivation and disillusion of how expedition life is like today. Mingmar Sherpa had a throat infection at ABC and was helivacuated together with Hess and Salzmann on 24/05. Sherpas above BC: 3 Oxygen: Not taken, not used. |
