| Route Notes | BC below Chago Glacier C3 at Makalu La C4 on north side of NW Ridge High point at base of last couloir. Castellon Makalu 2008 led by Juan Corro - 9 Sept 2008 The attempt to reach the summit was launched on the 15th on October by Pitarch and Gyalzen Sherpa from C4 at 7800m at 6:00 am, but the morning was very windy, and when they reached 8000m at 9:00 am, Gyalzen did not want to go higher. There were no fixed ropes ahead, and no route was already opened. Corro told Pitarch not to continue alone, so they descended to BC that day, arriving at BC at 4:00-5:00 pm. Pitarch's middle finger of his right hand was badly frostbitten, and he, with the team's doctor, Carlos Pardo, left BC by helicopter from Hillary BC on the 18th to go to a hospital in Europe to care for the finger.
