| Route Notes | BC arrival: 19 April Ander, Martinez, Oiarzabal and Rojo after Khumbu trek. 23 April: Cortabi Tarte, Lasa, Garcia from Lukla 24 April: Ardanaz and Servosa from Lukla. Sherpa: Pasang Nuru Sherpa, 17/5/74 (04/02/2031), Bupsa, Jubing-5, Ev 18/5/06 & 16/5/07. Oiarzaal told Spanish newspaper he was independent of others (with his own Sherpa, Pasang Nuru), but he shared tents and food in C2 and C3 with Rojo and they summited together from C2. Basque Makalu Expedition 2008 Spring - Roberto Rojo Oiarzabal, Rojo and Pasang Nuru Sherpa (for Oyarzabal) left C3 at 1:30 am on 10 May, reached summit at 9:30 am, stayed on summit about an hour and descended to C3 at 2:30 pm. Next day descended to BC. Weather was perfect during summit climb. No body on summit on that day. On 12 May Martinez left C3 at 2 am reached summit at 11 am stayed on summit more than an hour. Descended to C3 at about 4 pm next day to BC. The weather was moderate, windy and little snowfall. Oyarzabal, Rojo and Martinez left BC on 15 May to Yangri Kharka from there to Tumlingtar by helicopter and by plane to Kathmandu on 16 and trying to leave on 20 May. On 18 May Ardanaz and Servosa left C3 for summit at 2 am and Garcia at 3 am, he was not feeling well. Ardanaz and Servosa reached summit at 2 pm stayed on summit about 30 minutes, descended to C3 between 9-10 pm. Garcia climbed up to 7900m where he started vomiting and turned around to C3. Next day all three climbers descended to C2 and following day to BC. The weather was good no wind. On 19 May Ander, Lasa and Cortabitarte left C3 at 2 am for summit when Ander and Lasa reached at 8150m at 8:30 am strong wind started picking up and it was not possible for them to go further. Both climbers waited for some time at 8150m then descended to C3 at about 12 noon, slept there. Cortabitarte turned around from about 7900m to C3 due to exhaustion. All three descended to C2 next day and following day to BC. The team left BC on 23 May to Yangri Kharka and by helicopter to Taplejung from there to Kathmandu on 26 May and will leave on 31 May. |
