Route Notes BC at Hillary BC. French objective Makalu 2008 Spring - Francois Marsigny Francois Marsigny and Pemba Nuru left 7800m (C3B for second summit attempt) at midnight of 18 May. They reached summit at 9:30 am stayed on summit for 2-3 minutes, descended to 7800m at about 1 pm. It was foggy and waited for between 1-2 hours then to C2 spent night there and next day to BC. Only three persons were on summit on that day. At the beginning the weather was good. With the sunrise it started blowing very strong wind. At a point Marsigny was thinking to turn around at the same time Joao Garcia passed them toward summit and on his return from summit Marsigny asked Garcia about the distance to the summit. Garcia told Marsigny that the distance might be 10 to 15 minutes climb. Then Marsigny continued toward summit. Marsigny said if Garcia was not there Marsigny might have given up his summit bid. On their first attempt on 11 May, Marsigny couple and Pemba Nuru left C3A (7550m) at 10:30 pm and they reached 7850m around 1 am [on 11 May]; they started feeling very cold then they turned around to C3 at about 3:30 am and started massaging for about an hour and slept there. Next day descended to BC. The team went to Yangri Kharka, then to Lukla by helicopter and returned Kathmandu on 23 and will leave on 31 May.
Accidents On first attempt Mrs Marsigny suffered from facial edema; doctor told her that it will be Ok within few days, but it did not, therefore she did not make her second attempt
