Route Notes JWAF Makalu Expedition, led by Kazuyoshi Kondo - 1 June 2008 (Japan Workers Alpine Federation) The expedition flew to Tumlingtar on 18 April and trekked to Hillary BC and their BC, arriving at BC at 5700m on 27 April. They then moved up to a temporary C1 at 6350m because they needed to acclimatize, slept there and then descended to BC and never used that C1 again. They made a new C1 at 6650m on 7 May and went down to BC the next day. On 8 May, Hashimoto and Hatano climbed to 7300m, then down to BC. On the 13th, Hashimoto and Hatano made C2 at 7550m and the next day Hashimoto tried to reach C3, but he had to help the Ecuadorian climber Santiago Quintero (member of team led by Waldemar Niclevicz of Brazil) to descend by giving Quintero his oxygen at 7550m. Hashimoto then went down to BC that day; Hatano was already on his way to BC. On the 18th Hashimoto and Hatano moved up from BC with three Sherpas to C1, on the 19th the five men went to C2, on the 20th they pitched C3 at 7850m, and at 9:00 pm they all left for the top. The next morning, 21 May, at 4:30 am , when it was still dark and very cold, they stopped 100 meters from the summit (10 meters below the summit) and waited there until sunrise before ascending the final distance from the summit, which they gained at 5:40 am. They went down all the way to BC the same day, they arrived there between 4:30 and 6:30 pm: Hashimoto with Kami at 4:30 pm, Kami Singee Syamba Tamang at 5:30 pm, and Hatano with Fura Dorje at 6:30 pm. The other five members got only to 7200m on different dates but for the same reason, a "lack of power." The team left BC on the 26th for Yak Kharka, and from there were flown by helicopter to Kathmandu on the 29th. Oxygen was used by Hashimoto from C3 to top to C3, by Hatano from C2 to top to C2. Fura Dorje used it from C3 to top to C3, while the other two Sherpa summiters used none at all. Sherpas: Fura Dorje, 31/1/67 (19/9/2023), Sotang-6, Solu, Everest X6, Lhotse X1, Cho Oyu X1 Kami Sherpa, 29/6/66 (15/3/2023), Sedua, Makalu-5, Everest X2, Cho Oyu X1 Kami Singee Tamang, 16/7/77, Syamba, Ramche-4, Rasuwa, Everest 15/5/06
