Route Notes Andalucia Makalu 2008 Expedition - Manuel "Lolo" Gonzalez On 18 May, Vazquez left C4 at 11 pm, Fernandez and Gonzalez at midnight towards the summit. The night was clear but very cold and no wind. At about 8:30 am of 19 May Vazquez reached at 8300m and Fernandez and Gonzalez reached at 8200m about the same time. Suddenly a very strong wind picked up. They waited for about 30 minutes for wind to subside but it did not stop. Then the members decided to descend. Vazquez slept at C4 next day to C2 and reached BC on 21. Fernandez and Gonzalez slept at C3, next day to C2 and on 22 May to BC. Upon arriving at BC, Gonzalez realized that three toes of his right foot were seriously frostbitten. Gonzalez left BC for Kathmandu on 24 May by helicopter and trying to leave as soon as possible. Vazquez and Fernandez also left BC on 24 May and returned to Kathmandu on 29 May and will leave on 6 June. Earlier, during approach march to BC, a porter named Drabey Bahadur Rajan Magar, 44 years old of Waku-8 died in Baruntse icefall-West Col on 24 April. A falling stone hit the porter's back and he fell down about 100m below. The body was recovered and waited for helicopter for two days to send the body to Lukla but it did not come. Then decided to carry the body to Lukla and walk for two days over the Hinku glacier. The body was buried by Sherpas at a place at about 5200m altitude near by glacier on 28 April. The death of porter was informed to police office in Lukla. The team went to Yangri Kharka from Lukla by helicopter then to BC. Fixed rope: contributed 150m.
