Route Notes BC at Hillary BC C1 near some past expedition's ABC. As days passed in Oct wind and cold increasing. Made low BC because some problems with the porters and sirdar. C2 established by sirdar on 3 Oct at which time Favrin had had cerebral edema in C1 and had to be evacuated from BC by helicopter, thus also leaving shortage of time. C2 occupied by members only on 7th. 9th tried to reach Makalu La and only one member Mercier reached it; Leveque and Tsuroupa concerned about dangerous snow conditions and retreated at 6800m. 3 nights in C2 and then down and climb finished. Weather was fine to 11 Oct. Had porters only to C1 to bring down C1 on 11th, so members had to bring C2 down on 10th.
Accidents Favrin cerebral edema (evacuated on 13 Oct by helicopter)
