Route Notes 06 Sept: KTM to Tumlingtar by flight. 13 Sept: at old Makalu BC (4900m). 15 Sept: at ABC (5400m) except for Dulac (who had AMS). 17 Sept: up to C1 then down to BC for Philippe, Michaud, Beigbeder, and Favre-Felix guided by Sherpas 19 Sept: Dulac was rescued from 4900m BC by helicopter due to AMS. 20 Sept: first sleep at C1 for all members. Next day to ABC for 2 days rest. Meanwhile Sherpas wouldn't go further than C2 site in hip-deep snow conditions. 23 Sept: all members slept at C1, aiming to go further up on the next day. 24 Sept: fog appeared, allowing an 80m visibility. Philippe went to 6130m and down to ABC. Beigbeder and Favre-Felix went to C2 then down to ABC. Verdannet and Michaud went already down in BC. Decision to abandon on that day due to dangerous avalanching snow conditions covering crevassed glacier.
