| Route Notes | C3 slightly higher than others C4 at South Col. In Everest Summit attempt from C2 direct to South Col on 18 May and left Col for top at midnight but turned back at 8200m on 19 May with strong wind and not feeling strong: Joos and Marugg were in this team. Down to BC. Rizzi on 19 May up for Lhotse; from C3 on 20th but too slow and stopped at 8400m at 12 hours climbing: probably too difficult for him without partners and became very tired. Then reports of bad weather made team decide to abandon climb. |
