| Route Notes | On 16 May Mehdi went directly from BC to C3 (took him 8 hours), then rested there for 3 hours and continued to C4, where he arrived at 4 am on 17 May. As the weather was bad up there, he went back to C3, where he met Sattar Forough, who had come up from C2. On 19 May they left C4 at 3 am. Windy, but clear. Couloir was snowy. Good climbing conditions. They reached 8460m when Ang Phurba fell down at about 12:07 and everyone who was climbing on the mountain went down. They actually wanted to continue but the Sherpas forced them to go down. They went to C4, packed their stuff and descended to C3, where they spent the night. On 20 May they descended to BC. They were told that Lhotse climbing was finished, so they decided to abandon their summit attempt. Carlos Santalena was an Himalayan Ascent client on the SST permit. |
