Route Notes The large Everest summit party was made up of 12 members and an equal number of 12 Sherpas. The members were Edwin Bailey, Borchordt, Derue, Gonzalez, Grieder, Grigsby, Jones, Lowry, Madison, Moharrak, Sheedy and Wessels. They together with their Sherpas, set out for the top at 11:00 pm on the 17th, and all of them reached the summit almost together, at 7:45-7:55 am on 18 May. All descended to C4. Here, at midnight, five members and two Sherpas left C4 at the South Col, traversed over to the West Face of Lhotse and summited Lhotse at 7:00 am on the 19th. This party, Edwin Bailey, Grieder, Grigsby, Jones, Madison, Ang Pasang and Karma Sarke, then went down to C2 in the Western Cwm, where they joined the rest of the team's descending Everest summiters. Oxygen was used while climbing Everest by members from C3 to top to C3 and by Sherpas from C4 to top to C4. Those members and Sherpas who went over to Lhotse's summit, stayed on oxygen to Lhotse's top and down to C3.
