Route Notes Summit: 23 May by McGrath and Pemba Tenji. McGrath was intending to climb without oxygen. She reached C4 on 21 May and was ready to summit on 22 May. McGrath and Pemba Tenji left C4 at 1:30 am on 21st May; they were behind the Finnish team. Pemba Tenji was supposed to fix the lines with the IMG Sherpas beforehand, however, the IMG Sherpas never showed up and Pemba Tenjin could not do it by himself. They caught up with the Finnish team, who were fixing the ropes. When they were just below the couloirs the Finnish team told them that they had run out of rope and that they could not carry on without a rope. McGrath was still without oxygen and was doing great. They all decided to turn back at around 5 am and descended to C4, where they arrived at about 6:45 am. The Finnish team descended to C2 that day, but McGrath decided to stay as she wanted to give it another go. The IMG Sherpas had reached C4 by then and had fixed the rope in the couloirs just in front of McGrath and Pemba Tenji. On 23rd May, Pemba Tenji and McGrath left at 1 am. McGrath felt very weak that morning and decided to take oxygen. Good views into Nepal. They spent about 30 minutes on the summit and descended to C4, where they arrived at about 12:30 pm. Stayed there about one hour and descended to C3, where they rested and McGrath decided to use oxygen from C3 to C2 as she was so slow. They reached C2 at about 7 pm. Oxygen: McGrath from C4 to summit to C4 and from C3 to C2 Pemba Tenji from C4 to summit to C2 Sherpa: Pemba Tenji, Chatu, 24/1/63, Lhotse X1, Everest X4, Cho Oyu X1 Pemba Thiley Shera (Asian Trekking) - 14 Sept 2017 The Sherpa summiter was Pemba Tshering (Pangboche, 1979) instead of Pemba Tenji.
