Route Notes International Lhotse Expedition 2008, led by Samuli (Mika) Mansikka - 9 June 2008 There was light snowfall almost every day from about 20 May onwards. The summit part left C4 at 11:30 pm on 26 May. They were Hoglin, Kristen, Mansikka, Jangbu, Da Jangbu and Thile Nurbu. The two Jangbus reached the summit on 27 May at 8:00 am, followed 15 minutes later by Thile Nurbu and the three members. They descended to C4 at 11:00 am and went on down to C2 at 5:00 pm. All 10 members had reached C3 on 18 or 19 May. After that, the South African couple, DeBruyn and Walker, turned back at 7500m on the 20th; they had expected that this would be their highest point, and they kept to their schedule and left the expedition on 24 May. Five others who also left the expedition on the 24th were Danks, Veldhuis, and Williams, all of whom had very bad coughs, plus Madsen and Voutselas, both of whom had no more time. That meant that only two members Hoglin and Kristen, plus the leader and Sherpas, remained to make the summit bid. Hoglin left BC on 29 May, and Kristen and Mansikka left the next day. As stated above, three members had very bad coughs. Williams got mild frostbite on his lower lip when he was climbing between BC and C1. Oxygen was used by Kristen and Mansikka from C3 to the summit to wherever between C2 and C2 it ran out. Hoglin used if from C4 to the summit to C3. Sherpas used it from C4 to summit to C4. Sherpas: Da Jangbu, 30 years old, Patle, no 8000ers Jangbu, 24/5/67, Patle, Everest X4, Cho Oyu X1 Thile Norbu, 26/5/74, Choplung, Solu, Everest X3
