| Route Notes | Lhotse Expedition led by Dan Mazur, Spring 2007 - 3 June 2007 Summit party of Fitzpatrick, Manning and Mazur (no Sherpas) left C4 at 4:30 am on 21 May for the top. Fitzpatrick and Manning were on the summit at 12:30 pm. Manning descended in good time to C4, but Fitzpatrick, who had been going strong on his way to the top, in descent from about 2:00 pm developed pneumonia and then also pulmonary edema. Mazur had stopped his own ascent about 100 meters below the summit at a dangerous place to wait there for his two summiting members in case they needed help here. Fitzpatrick needed it; Mazur descended slowly with him from just below the couloir to C4 that day. All three went down to C2 on the 22nd, but Mazur with Fitzpatrick stayed an extra day at C2 before going to BC. Fitzpatrick flew to Kathmandu by helicopter. Oxygen: Manning in C4 to top to C4 Mazur from C4 to high point to C4 Fitzpatrick in C4 to top to Kathmandu Other non-summiting members: Kim went to C2, but had eight-hour bad headaches daily and also got a bad head cold; left expedition 5 May. Ling went to C4, but no higher because he didn't want to use oxygen, but not able to climb to top without it. |
