Route Notes C1 at top of Icefall C2 in Western Cwm C3 on West Face C4 below couloir of West Face. Lhotse Expedition led by Henry Todd - Spring 2006 Summit attempt by Casserley, Ms David, Stanford, Pemba Tshering and Gurmin/Gurmi Dorje from C4 at midnight of 19/20 May ended at 8300m at 8:30-9:00 am on the 20th. Casserley had to stop when his crampons broke. Ms David was using no oxygen during this very cold night and feared frostbite. Stanford did not have enough oxygen to go higher and return to C4 on it. The two Sherpas turned back with them. All descended to C3 or C2 on the 20th. Oxygen used by all in the summit party except Ms. David, who used none at all. The others used it from C4 to their high point to C4. Other members: Ferrera went into the Icefall, lost all motivation to continue his climb, and left after one week. Ratcliffe slipped a disc at base camp, went no higher and left after one week. Todd stayed at C2 throughout the climb. Sherpas: Pemba Tshering, 42 years old, Pangboche Gurmin/Gurmi Dorje, 23/7/76, Pangboche, Everest X3, Lhotse X1, Cho Oyu X1
