| Route Notes | High point at bottom of couloir. Mattle left BC at 2:30 am on 22 May. He climbed to C2, where arrived at 7:30 am. He had breakfast there and carried on climbing to C3 at 9 am. It was extremely hot. When he arrived at C3 at 1 pm. He felt slightly sun-struck and had stomach problems. He slept from 2 pm till 11 pm. He left C3 at 11:30 pm for his summit push. He was feeling better but had to go to the toilet several times due to gastric problems. He also found it very tiring especially digging out the fixed rope, which was covered by drift snow. He turned back at bottom of couloir at 5 am as he did not think he would make it to summit. He descended to BC after dismantling C3 and C2. |
