Route Notes C2 (also known as ABC by some climbers) C3 (low C3). Pustelnik, Vasilev and Gonzalo Velez all claim to have used the same camps and Sherpas. They climbed together but summited on different days. O2 yes, and also Martini climbed with them using same camps. Vasilev reached 7900m on 25th May and turned back due to cough and lung infection and went down to C2. Gonzalo Velez reached 8350m on 20th May and returned due to exhaustion and a storm was coming in. Pustelnik started climbing at 7:30 am and reached the summit at 6:30 pm with Beno Kashakashvili from the Georgian expedition. Pustelnik claims weather was beautiful he could see many mountains during the day. Sergio reached the summit with 2 Slovenians at 2:00 pm. This expedition left their C4 for the South Africans to use on their summit bid. When Pustelnik reached the summit it was getting dark, difficult to see. Simone Mori, Italian on Everest, Spring 2000 - 29 May Martini told Moro "Now, I am very satisfied because I took these pictures which I could not before because I could not see and I touched the summit and saw the middle summit which one cannot see from below main summit." Slovenian Lhotse leader, Spring 2000 - 1 June Martini told Zernovik he was now sure he had been on summit in 1997.
