Members(2) Arnaud Pecher, France, Mountain Guide, base jumper Eric Jamet, France, Mountain Guide, base jumper The members aimed to do the coveted first jump from Lamjung Himal’s south flank (see LAMJ 2015), aiming to dive from circa 6900m to 2000m in rough 4 minutes. • Acclimatization The approach march route was used as a 5 to 6 days of acclimatization trip to reconnoitre the jump’s landing area, located afoot of the south side of Lamjung Himal. Starting from Sikles, the duet went up via Kaputri Lake, Kori, until trekking down to Timang. Then BC was reached a day of walk above Chame, on the northeast side of the mountain. When both members reached BC, Sherpas had already started to work on the mountain. When they both reached C1 on the 17 of October (and straight slept there), Sherpas who had already established C1 were already equipping the route above it. Hired, led by Sujal Gurung, were in fact breaking the trail and equipping the route. Members made 3 rotations from BC: Spent 4 nights at C1 (5350m) on the 17 Oct, 20 Oct, 24,25 Oct. Spent 1 night at 5800m (epic on a wind-blown ridge!), in a small tent at C1.5, on the 21 Oct. Spent 1 night at C2 (6350m) on the 26 Oct. On the 27 ofOct, the 4 hired got to the summit. Starting at 7 am from C2, they reached the summit at the end of the afternoon, descending straight to BC from there, the latter reached at about midnight/1 am. Meanwhile, as still being not fully acclimatized, both members had descended back to BC. On the 28 of Oct, the weather forecast got worse than previously announced, with 2m of snow hitting the BC within 24h (Cyclone Monta). The forecast announcing a better day for the 29 Oct, then again snow and wind in high altitude, the team decided to cancel the expedition regarding its base-jumping goal. On the 29 of Oct, the team got an epic to trek back down to Chame: they were forced to pull each other in the trail to be able to move. |
