| Route Notes | Kato - 4 Dec 80 Kusum Kangru: North Face or West Ridge routes; very near so same BC for both routes; had even hoped to climb both routes, but found after Ama Dablam were very tired, so after only couple days climbing gave up. 25th Nov established BC at 4300m on northwest side of KK and climbed for 2-3 hours. 26th - 500m climb 27th - 1000m climb; saw North Face and West Ridge were very difficult, more equipment necessary and food insufficient. Reached 5300m by 2 members Kato and Tomita. 28th returned to BC where Ogawa had stayed. Kusum Kangru Japanese Ama Dablam expedition autumn 1980 had hoped to climb KK's and North Face or West Ridge or both (from same BC), but were so tired after Ama Dablam ascent they gave up after couple of days climbing. |
