Route Notes Approach: Flight to Lukla, standard trek to Gorakshep. BC 06/04 5000m (next to Gorakshep) C1 12/04 5500m (on Khangri Shar Glacier) C2 13/04 5900m (on snow slope underneath saddle) C3 14/04 6463m (on saddle between KGRI and Pumori) HPt 14/04 6463m at C3 by both members. Climb abandoned on 15/04 due to difficulty of remaining route, danger of hidden crevasses. Attempted first ascent of Khangri Shar and a possible ascent of Chumbu afterwards. Climbing in alpine style, only two members, no Sherpas. Initial plan was to climb the South Spur of Khangri Shar. Upon studying it from close they were deterred by overhanging rock sections and decided to attempt another route through the icefall of the Khangri Shar Glacier to the saddle between Khangri Shar and Pumori, and on to the summit via the East Ridge. Base Camp in tent next to Gorak Shep. On 12/04 over the Khangri Shar Glacier and icefall to C1. Next day to C2. On 14/04 to C3, located on the saddle between Khangri Shar and Pumori. From the saddle they could see the remainder of the route via the ridge and saw that it was full of treacherous crevasses and cornices. They eventually decided to abandon the climb due to the risk. On 15/04 from C3 down to C1. On 16/04 back to Gorakshep. Left on 17/04. An developed fever and cardiac problems, Woo was also struggling with health problems. From Lobuche by helicopter to Kathmandu on 24/04. No attempt made on Chumbu due to health problems of members.
