Route Notes Rope-fixing summiters: From Peak Promotion and Seven Summit Treks: Lakpa Sherpa, Khotang Dawa Phinjok Sherpa, Rolwaling Phurba Sherpa, Solukhumbu Ang Dorchi Sherpa, Kharikhola Phurba Dorchi Sherpa Mingmar Sherpa From the Himalayan Times (14 May 2019) Six Sherpa climbers summit Mt Kanchenjunga Rajan Pokhrel KATHMANDU: At least six Nepali climbers successfully climbed the world’s third highest mountain this afternoon. Babu Sherpa, Managing Director at Peak Promotion Pvt Ltd told THT from Camp IV that six rope-fixing climbers reached the summit point of Mt Kanchenjunga at around 3:15 pm opening a climbing route to the top of the mountain. “The climbing Sherpas deployed by Peak Promotion Pvt Ltd have successfully opened a climbing route from the base camp to the summit of Mt Kanchenjunga,” he said. Lakpa Sherpa, Dawa Phinjo Sherpa, Ang Phurba Sherpa, Ang Dorchi Sherpa, Phurba Dorchi Sherpa and Mingma Sherpa stood atop the 8,586-metre peak, Sherpa added. According to him, there are 17 Indian climbers attempting to climb the world’s third highest peak this season. “This is the largest ever civilian expedition of Indian climbers on Mt Kanchenjunga,” he said, adding that Umesh Zirpe-led team would also be the first civil team from Maharashtra to scale the peak. The team has already reached Camp IV to make the summit push. A record at the Department of Tourism shows that at least 34 climbers representing seven different teams have obtained climbing permits for Mt Kanchenjunga this season.
