| Route Notes | BC 06 Apr 5500m C1 16 Apr 6140m C2 17 Apr 6400m C3 02 May 7000m C4 19 May 7700m (near crevasse) Smt 20 May by Cadiach, Nuri Sherpa at 4 pm. The team had put their C4 a bit higher than the normal C4 as Cadiach wanted to climb less than 1000m on summit day. Summit team and Rafols left C4 at 8 pm. Rafols reached 7900m, but had very cold feet and turned back at 10 pm. He descended to the lower C4 as the upper C4 was too exposed to rockfall. He stayed and waited for Cadiach. Cadiach and Nuri carried on to the summit. The teams using supplementary oxygen were ahead of him. Straightforward climb. He had two cups of coffee on the summit and stayed for 50 minutes to take pictures. On his descent, he saw Kim Hong-Bin from South Korea sitting on a rock at about 8300m. They continued down together. When they reached the fixed rope, he thought everyone was safe; however, he saw the bodies of the people who had fallen down near C4 and could not understand how that could have happened. He arrived at C4 at 3 am. Kim stayed in his tent, but left for his descent to BC before Cadiach. Cadiach packed up his C4 and descended to C3 on 21 May. He saw two dead bodies at about 7500m. On 22 May he descended to BC. Oxygen: Taken and used from C4 to summit to C4 by Nuri Cadiach not taken, not used Sherpa: Nuri Sherpa, Makalu |
