| Route Notes | Kangchenjunga Ski Expedition 2008 - 9 November 2008 After having accimatized by establishing C2 at 6960m, on 15 October, the two-member team with no Sherpas descended to BC on the 16th. They stayed at BC until the 25th. The weather forecast said that the jet stream winds were now over the Himalaya but there would be a window of milder wind from the 25th. They returned to C2 on the 26th. But now there was heavy snowfall all that night and all the next day, the 27th; they had to remain in camp while 50 cms of new snow was dumped on the mountain. They saw snow avalanches above them. To continue moving upwards would be a very "a very, very hard climb" through so much snow. On the 28th they returned to BC: they skied down from C2 to 5500m, which was the site for many base camps. They now decided to abandon their climb: they didn't know how the weather would develop in the near future. They were very much disappointed. "Both of us were in great condition." |
