Route Notes Team left C4 at 1:30 am on 19 May (Ivan Vallejo and Fernando Gonzalez climbed with this team). There was a lot of snow. Weather was changeable. They got to 8500m at midnight and decided to turn back as the weather turned very bad. Snowfall and wind, however when they got back to C4 at 3 pm the weather was clear again. They arrived at C4 at 3 pm, packed up their tents and descended to C3, where they arrived at 5 pm. Ivan Vallejo stayed at C3 on 20 May. Team went down to BC. Team was very upset that they did not wait at C3 for another day as the following days were perfect. They watched Ivan Vallejo and Joao Garcia on their summit push with binoculars. Oiarzabal got to 6500m on 22 April, but abandoned climb due to problems with his feet (he has no toes left - he lost them on K2 in 2004). He also not feeling strong enough. He left BC on 23 April and returned to Kathmandu 3 May. Initially team wanted to climb Yalung Kang. But after Juanito had left the expedition, the remaining team decided to go for Kangchenjunga as there was too much snow on Yalung Kang and they knew that they needed the help of other teams. Sherpas did not climb above 7700m on 18 May. The two Sherpas were Pemba Dorjee and Pasang Norbu Sherpa.
Accidents Oiarzabal had problems with his feet (previously frostbitten)
