Route Notes There weas a lot of snow: from C1 up to C3 site 1m deep powder snow snow which was dangerous of avalanching if returned to clean camps 2 and 3. On 12th up from C2 for C3 was summit party of Joos and Ponce de Leon and 2 Sherpas; left C2 at 6:00 pm and got to 7620m at 2:00 pm for C3, deposited gear, slept in C2 and down to BC to rest for next summit attempt. 14th Marek and Segarra up from C2 and got to 7100m, then strong wind so down to BC. Now heavy snowfall, everyday some snow. Spent 36 days in BC in higher and only 3 days no snowfall, "quite frustrating" since not possible to go down to villages and drink a beer. On 21 May all members (except Schuler) and 3 Sherpas up to 6250m at C1, intending to go to C2 to bring down gear but too dangerous to go higher, so down to BC with C1 gear only. Glacier has changed a lot between C1 and C3 since Joos was there 2 years ago; almost like Khumbu Icefall. Had to pay Maoists Rs 5000 per member at last village before BC. Schuler left expedition 4 May; had been to C1 on 23 April, then got pluerisy in BC.
